Missed Opportunities Plague Tigers in Loss to MC

Box Score

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Mississippi College scored nine runs on 13 hits to defeat West Alabama 9-2 Tuesday afternoon at UWA Softball Complex.

"The first game we kicked the ball around and they took full advantage of it," UWA head coach Carie Dever-Boaz said. "I really wish we could have finished the game two as we were building some momentum when Hannah Mynard tied the game up. The energy and competitiveness is what we need to take to Montevallo."

With the win, Mississippi College improves to 12-11 overall and 10-7 in GSC play while UWA drops to 11-14 and 7-11.

The Choctaws took a 2-1 lead after the first and never trailed the rest of the game.

The Tigers scored in the bottom of the first when Mary Grace Sheffield walked with bases loaded scoring Kacy Noland. With the run, the Tigers trailed 2-1 after the first.

In the bottom of the third, UWA scored on a Sheffield bunt single scoring Cassie Matlock. With the run, West Alabama still trailed 5-2 in the game. Mississippi College scored four more runs the rest of the way.

The Tigers were led by Sheffield who had a single and a RBI. The freshman outfielder leads the team with a .385 batting average.

Noland (5-6) took the loss as she gave up three runs on three hits with two strikeouts in the game.

The second game of the doubleheader was canceled due to weather conditions.

The Tigers return to action Friday for a single game against Montevallo at Softball Stadium at Orr Park at 6 p.m.
