West Alabama is 6-4 overall, 4-3 in Gulf South Conference play. Delta State is 4-5 and 4-5. 
 
WEATHER OUTLOOK
The forecast for Saturday calls for sunny skies with a high of 58 with winds from the NNE at 10 to 20 mph. Saturday evening calls for clear skies with a low around 35 with NE winds at 5 to 10 mph. Sunday's forecast calls for sunshine with a few afternoon clouds and a high of 62. Sunday breezes are expected to be 5 to 10 mph from the east.
 
COACH RUNDLES
UWA Head Coach Gary Rundles is just the eighth college coach in the history of baseball in the state of Alabama to record 1,000 victories, hitting the milestone with a 2-1 victory over Spring Hill on March 7, 2020. In a career that has spanned over 40 years, now 21 of those running a Tiger program where he has won 635 games and made six NCAA Regional appearances. Rundles has coached 1,640 games as a collegiate head coach. He is 635-400 in his 21st year at West Alabama and 1,007-677 in 33 years as a college head coach. 
 
SERIES
Saturday's first game will be the 139th between the Tigers and Statesmen. Delta State leads the series 96-42. 
 
TIGER HITTERS
Jake Nemith leads West Alabama hitters with a .436 batting average. The Tiger shortstop has three doubles and an RBI. Third baseman/pitcher Gavin Rogers is hitting .310 with a team-leading two home runs and 12 RBI. First baseman Taylor Clemmons is hitting .303 with a two doubles and eight RBI.

LAST MEETING
COVID 19 canceled the 2020 season the week the Tigers and Statesmen were set to play last season, so UWA and DSU have not played since April 15, 2019 in Cleveland, Mississippi.
 
SIX STRAIGHT
Delta State has won six straight dating back to a 10-5 Tiger win in the second game of a doubleheader at Tartt Field on Feb. 18. The Statesmen have won seven of the last eight meetings.
 
FIRST HOME GAME
Saturday's doubleheader will be the first action at home this season for Delta State.
 
TIGERS ON THE ROAD
West Alabama is 0-3 on the road this season, with all three setbacks coming at West Florida to open the season. It's been 27 days since the Tigers have played a road game. UWA has gone 6-1 over that time at home.
 
OLD FRIEND
This will be the first meeting between the Tigers and Statesmen since former longtime UWA assistant coach David Steed took an assistant coaching position with the Statesmen after the 2019 season. Steed spent 11 seasons as Coach Gary Rundles lead assistant.
 
UP NEXT
West Alabama returns home to host Shorter in a single game Friday evening and a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Delta State travels to Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday.
