UAB Spring Invite is Next for UWA Track

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of West Alabama track and field team is geared up and ready for another weekend of competition as the Tigers head to the University of Alabama at Birmingham for the 2021 UAB Spring Invite on April 2 and April 3 at the UAB Track and Field Complex.

The two-day event starts Friday at 1 p.m. with the men's javelin throw followed by the women in the same event. Women's 1500 meters serves as the first running event of the afternoon set to start at 3 p.m. with the say set to close with the steeplechase.

Activity resumes Saturday morning all over the venue at 9 a.m. with the women's hammer throw and the women's and men's 5000 meters all starting at the same time. Field events conclude with the men's high jump and the women's pole vault at 2 p.m. while the running schedule is set to finish with the 4x400-meter relays at 4:30 p.m.

Last week at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays hosted by Mississippi State University, Annaya Chelcy broke two program records with time of 12.09 in the 100-meter dash and 24.55 seconds in the 200 meters. Nate Sanford posted the fourth best time in GSC this season with a finish of 48.20 seconds in the 400 meters.

Competing alongside West Alabama are programs from all levels around the southeast including the following: Alabama State, Samford, Jacksonville State, Tuskegee, East Tennessee State, Point, Alabama A&M, Lipscomb, Emory, Montevallo, Birmingham Southern, Auburn Montgomery, Hope College, Tulane, Chattanooga, Arkansas State and the hosts UAB.
