Nemith Named to ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – West Alabama third baseman Jake Nemith has been named to the 2021 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-South Region Team. Nemith is a second team selection.

The teams are voted on by members of the ABCA and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee.

This is the second all-region team selection for Nemith. He was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-South Region Team on May 21.

Nemith led the Tigers with 16 multi-hit games and ended the season with a team-leading 15-game hitting streak. He also closed the season with a 16-game reached base streak, also the longest of the season for any Tiger.

From Pace, Florida, Nemith is the only UWA player to both play in and start all 34 games in a COVID-shortened season. He batted.367 and led the Tigers with six home runs batting in the leadoff spot. His nine doubles were a team best and he also drive in 15 runs. He stole five bases in six attempts.

Dan Oberst of West Georgia was named the ABCA/Rawlings South Region player of the year, while Shorter pitcher Jonathan Pintaro earned region pitcher of the year honors.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
