Tiger Wrangler Women Complete Fall Sweep, Men 5th at MSU

MURRAY, Ky. – The West Alabama Tiger Wrangler women completed a first place sweep of all five Ozark Region fall rodeos by taking first place at the 47th Annual Murray State College Rodeo this weekend at the Bill Cherry Expo Center. The UWA men finished fifth.

Paced by Ashley Henderson, Heather McLaughlin and Taycie Matthews, the UWA women collected 375 points to win for the fifth time in as many rodeos. Missouri Valley was second with 240, Tennessee-Martin with 235, Southern Arkansas with 125 and Central Methodist with 80 points to round out the top five. Arkansas-Monticello and Pearl River Community College rounded out the scoring in the women's field with 65 and 50 points, respectively.

Henderson took the top spot in breakaway roping, while McLaughlin won the first round and second place overall. McLaughlin split first and second in goat tying, while Matthews was third in barrel racing.

"This is a special group of ladies," UWA head coach Daniel Poole said. "Their work ethic and the way they support each other is unlike anything I've seen.

"We need to be proud of the success we've had this semester, but also remember that we are only at the halfway point," Poole said. "It's still anyone's game."

Missouri Valley won the men's side with 675 points, followed by East Mississippi Community College with 430, Southern Arkansas with 410, Tennessee-Martin at 340 and the Tigers at 335 to round out the top five team scores. Murray State (260), Pearl River (145), Three Rivers (130) and Arkansas-Monticello (90) completed men's scoring.

Chase Graves won first place in team roping for the Tigers and Hayden Maraman finished second in steer wrestling.

"The break is going to be a good chance to recharge the batteries and reflect on the areas we can improve in on the men's side," Poole said. "The talent is there. We have to work at becoming more consistent."

The Tiger Wranglers return to an Ozark Region arena to open the five-event spring season March 16-18 at the East Mississippi Community College Rodeo in Meridian, Mississippi.
