Women’s Rodeo Continues to Dominate Ozark Region

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The University of West Alabama Tiger Wrangler women continued to dominate the Ozark Region by winning their fourth consecutive rodeo this fall, this time at the SAU Mulerider Rodeo hosted by Southern Arkansas University this weekend at Story Arena. The UWA men finished fourth.
 
"I am so proud of this team," UWA head coach Daniel Poole said. "I really don't know what else to say. Four straight wins speaks for itself."
 
The UWA women racked up 400 points to secure the team victory at SAU, followed by Missouri Valley with 280, Pearl River Community College at 140 and Arkansas-Monticello at 125. East Mississippi Community College and Southern Arkansas shared fifth with 70 points. Tennessee-Martin and Northwest Mississippi Community College rounded out women's scoring with 50 and 35, respectively.
 
Missouri Valley won the men's side with 760 points, followed by EMCC with 435, Tennessee-Martin at 410, UWA with 390 and Pearl River with 330 to complete the top five. Northwest Mississippi had 220 points, followed by Southern Arkansas with 190 and Three Rivers with 80 to complete men's scoring.
 
Jaylie Matthews paced the Tiger Wrangler women by winning the barrel racing competition, Gabbie Hayes finished right behind Matthews in second place. Raven Clagg was second in breakaway roping and Heather McLaughlin second in goat tying. 

On the men's side JT Ellison won the steer wrestling competition and Clarke Gordan was second in team roping. 
 
After a weekend off, West Alabama returns to the arena Nov. 17-19 to close out the fall Ozark Region season at the Murray State rodeo.
