Tigers Ranked Sixth in D2SIDA South Region Poll

NEW CASTLE, Del. - West Alabama men's basketball team is ranked sixth in week five of the Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) South Region media poll after a 2-0 defeat against conference opponents this past weekend. This media poll is in its ninth year of existence.

The Tigers are 8-2 overall and 5-2 in GSC play. In a two-game road swing, the Tigers defeated Mississippi College 69-59 on Dec. 9. Terry Durham posted his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Shardarrion Allen and Kuran Garner also scored 15 points in the matchup.

UWA defeated Delta State 80-71 on Sunday. Justin Allison led the Tigers with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Durham leads the Tigers' offense with 14.8 points per game, shooting 61.4 from the field. He also averages 8.3 rebounds per game. Durham ranks second in the GSC in field goal percentage, third in rebounds, and 10th in scoring. He also leads UWA with 14 steals, ranking him 11th in the conference.

Allen averages 13.8 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game. Allen ranks 16th in the GSC in scoring and 25th in rebounds.

Allison averages 11.1 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game. Allison also averages 2.5 assists per game, ranking him 14th in the GSC. Garner averages 10.7 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game, and two assists per game.

As a squad, UWA averages 76.1 points per game. The Tigers' defense leads the GSC and is ranked third nationally in scoring defense, holding its opponent to 56.9 points per game. UWA's scoring margin is 19.2 points per game.

Four other GSC teams were also on the poll this week. West Georgia (6-1) is ranked third, Alabama Huntsville (9-3) is ranked fourth, Lee (5-2) is ranked eighth, and Mississippi College (7-4) is ranked ninth.

The Tigers host a non-conference matchup against Berry on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
