Men’s Hoops Tied for Fourth in D2SIDA South Region Poll

NEW CASTLE, Del. - West Alabama men's basketball team is tied for fourth in week six of the Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) South Region media poll after a 2-0 defeat against Berry College and West Georgia this past weekend. This media poll is in its ninth year of existence.

The Tigers are 10-2 overall and 6-2 in GSC play. The Tigers defeated Berry College on Dec. 14. Kuran Garner posted 22 points and five rebounds in the matchup. Terry Durham had 13 points and 16 rebounds, making that his fourth double-double of the season. Justin Allison also added 13 points.

UWA defeated Delta State 80-71 on Sunday. Allison led the Tigers with 18 points and eight rebounds. Shardarrion Allen also scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Durham leads the Tigers' offense with 14.5 points per game, shooting 57.3 from the field. He also averages 8.7 rebounds per game. Durham ranks fourth in the GSC in field goal percentage, third in rebounds, and 13th in scoring. He also leads UWA with 15 steals, ranking him 18th in the conference.

Allen averages 13.7 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, and two assists per game. Allen ranks 18th in the GSC in scoring and 19th in rebounds. Garner averages 11.9 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, and two assists per game.

Allison averages 11.8 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game. Allison also averages 2.8 assists per game, ranking him 14th in the GSC. Allison ranks seventh in the GSC for free throw percentage and 17th in 3-point field goals per game. CJ Melton ranks 20th in the GSC for rebounds and averages 5.3 per contest.

As a unit, UWA averages 76.2 points per game. The Tigers' defense leads the GSC and is ranked fifth nationally in scoring defense, holding its opponent to 58.4 points per game. UWA's scoring margin is 17.8 points per game.

Four other GSC teams were also on the poll this week. Alabama Huntsville (10-2) is tied for second, Lee (7-2) ranks seventh, and West Georgia (6-3) and Union (8-4) are tied for eighth.
