Men's Hoops Rises to No. 4 in D2SIDA South Region Poll

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's basketball team rose to No. 4 in the 2021-22 D2SIDA South Region Poll, following a 2-0 effort against conference opponents in Week 12.

In a two-game road swing, the Tigers defeated West Florida, 79-69, on Thursday in Pensacola, Fla., and Valdosta State, 59-57, on Saturday in Valdosta, Ga. Junior guard Justin Allison led UWA against the Argos with a season-high 19 points, and junior forward Shardarrion Allen took charge against VSU with a career-high 26 points.

Nationally, West Alabama is ranked third in defense, holding opponents to just 59.7 points and fourth in free throws made with 373 on the season.

Other GSC institutions appearing on the poll are Union University tied with Embry-Riddle for the No. 2 spot and West Florida at 10.

The Tigers are 18-4 overall and 11-3 in conference play in their second season under head coach Nick Woodruff.

On Wednesday, Feb. 9, the Tigers return to action when they travel to Rome, Ga., to take on Shorter University. Tip-off is set for 6:30 CT/7:30 ET at the Winthrop-King Centre.
