Women Finish First, Men Place Eighth in Pearl River Rodeo

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – West Alabama rodeo competed in the Pearl River Rodeo on March 24^th through March 26^th and the women finished in first place with 482 points and the men placed eighth with 35 points in the Ozark Region rodeo.

"Our women's team took care of business. The whole team has a neat bond, and it shows in the results," head rodeo coach Daniel Poole said. "They always support each other no matter how they do individually. There are still three rodeos left and a lot can happen. It is important that we stay focused."

Bethany Stallons had the only first place finish and it came in breakaway roping.

Heather McLaughlin finished in third place in the same category and placed second in goat tying. Raven Clagg finished fifth in goat tying.

In barrel racing, Rebecca st. Martin came in fourth place.

"We can't seem to get any momentum, but nothing lasts forever. We are going to use this week off as a chance to work out some kinks," Poole said. "It is inevitable that things will turn around as long as we keep pushing forward with intensity,"

In steer wrestling, JT Ellison came in sixth place.

Missouri Valley College won the rodeo on the men's side.

The Tiger Wranglers will have a weekend off before they travel to to the UT Martin Spring College Rodeo on April 7^th-9^th. in Martin, Tenn. at the McWherter Agricultural Complex.
