Women Finish First, Men Finish Second at Arkansas-Monticello Rodeo

MONTICELLO, Ark. – West Alabama rodeo competed in the Arkansas-Monticello Rodeo and the women finished in first place with 430 points and the men placed second with 590 points in the Ozark Region event at the Drew County Fairgrounds.

"Our women's team have really come together this semester and seen what we can do. We are determined to do whatever it takes to finish this year on top," head rodeo coach Daniel Poole.

Heather McLaughlin finished in first place in goat tying and in first place in breakaway roping. Bethany Stallons placed third in breakaway roping.

Rebecca St. Martin placed third in barrel racing. East Mississippi Community College won the event.

"Everyone showed up focused and hungry. We have been capable of strong finishes all semester and I was glad to see it all come together this weekend," Poole said.

JT Ellison had a big week winning calf roping and placing second in steer wrestling. Coltan Ferguson finished in first place in steer wrestling.

Chase Graves and his teammate Mason Theriot from Pearl River Community College won team roping.

Missouri Valley College won the rodeo on the men's side and EMCC finished second place on the women's side with 190 points.

Rodeo will wrap up the regular season Thursday through Saturday in Senatobia, Miss. at the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rodeo at the Northwest Farm Multipurpose Arena.
