CASPER, Wyo. – West Alabama women's rodeo and Chase Graves, who qualified individually, are set to compete in the College National Finals Rodeo at the Ford Wyoming Center beginning on Sunday and run through June 18 which will be the Championship Round.
The UWA women's team qualified as a team by winning the Ozark Region Championship. Rebecca St. Martin, Heather McLaughlin, Bethany Stallons, and Joanna Hammett will compete on the women's side. Graves qualified individually after finishing second place in team roping as the heeler in the region.
"The CNFR is the Super Bowl of college rodeo and we are excited for the opportunity," head rodeo coach Daniel Poole said. "We have to continue trusting ourselves and our horses. The rest will take care of itself."
There are 11 regions participating at nationals, and all the CNFR qualifiers will compete in three rounds with the top 12 aggregate times advancing to the Championship Round on June 19.
McLaughlin will compete in goat tying and breakaway roping on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Martin will compete in barrel racing on Monday and twice on Tuesday. Hammett will participate in goat tying on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Stallons will compete in breakaway roping on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday.
Team roping will be Monday and Tuesday and Graves will compete with his teammate Mason Theriot from Pearl River Community College.
The CNFR main performances will air on ESPN3 beginning on Tuesday, June 14 through Saturday, June 18 at 8 p.m. each night. ESPN3 is available by using the ESPN App or by going to ESPN.com.
