Martin and McLaughlin Top Finishers at CNFR

CASPER, Wyo. – West Alabama 2021-22 rodeo season ended at the College National Finals Rodeo on Saturday night at the Ford Wyoming Center with Rebecca St. Martin and Heather McLaughlin being the top finishers for the Tigers.

"We did not have the finals we had planned on. We made split-second decisions that were reasonable at the time, but ended up being costly. That is rodeo," head rodeo coach Daniel Poole said.

Martin competed in barrel racing and finished 19^th with her best time being 14.41 seconds in the second go.

McLaughlin finished 19^th in goat tying with her best time in the second go of 6.3 seconds. McLaughlin also placed 44^th in breakaway roping with a time of 2.6 seconds in the first go.

Bethany Stallons and Joanna Hammett rounded out the four women that competed for West Alabama. Stallons finished 46^th in breakaway roping and Hammett placed 50^th in goat tying.

Chase Graves was the only member of the men's team to compete, and Graves received a no score in team roping.

"There is no doubt we have all gained something from the experience and are better competitors because of it," Poole said.

The women's team qualified for CNFR by winning the Ozark Region Regular Season Championship. Graves qualified on the men's side by placing second in the Ozark Region in team roping as the heeler.

The women finished in 31^st place and Weatherford College won the CNFR Women's Championship. On the men's side, Tarleton State won the CNFR Men's Championship and Ozark Region member Missouri Valley College placed third.
