Thaddeus Williams Joins Tiger Basketball

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama men's basketball team and head coach Nick Woodruff is thrilled to announce the signing of Thaddeus Williams. The guard joined the Tigers after starting his collegiate career at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

"The whole time recruiting Thadd, we felt like he was one of the best guards in the ACCC," Woodruff said. "He was a huge contributor on back-to-back ACCC championship teams. He knows how to win and will bring experience and all-around guard play to next year's team." 

Williams played two seasons at Shelton State under head coach Joe Eatmon. He played in a total of 60 games and started in 56 of them during his time as a Buc. Williams has accumulated 686 points, 229 assists, 215 rebounds, and 103 steals during his career at Shelton State.

The Bessemer, Alabama native played in 34 games and made 32 starts during the 2021-22 season. He averaged 12 points per game, dished out 3.8 assists per game, and collected 2.6 rebounds per game as the Bucs finished their 20221-22 season with a 29-5 overall record and went 19-1 in the conference. 

Williams shot 48 percent from the field, 43.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 80.2 percent from the free throw line during the 2021-22 season. He was named to the   2021-22 Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Second Team All-Region and named to the All-Tournament Team.

In his first season as a Buc, Williams played in 26 games and made 24 starts. He averaged 10.7 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, and 3.9 assists per game during the 2020-21 season. 

Williams graduated high school in 2020 from Bessemer City High School. He led the Tigers and won the 6A Region 9 Tournament during his senior season. The guard was named Co-Most Valuable Player at the 6A State Championship game. 

He will be pursuing his bachelor's degree in Sports Management at UWA.

"He is serious about getting a degree and excited about coming to UWA to compete in one of the toughest Division II conferences in the country," Woodruff added.
