LIVINGSTON, Ala. – With a combined decade of playing and coaching experience, the West Alabama volleyball program is pleased to welcome Cynthia Casimir to the coaching staff as announced by head coach John Schmidt.
"I am very excited to be a part of the UWA volleyball program this season, and I look forward to being under coach Schmidt's leadership," Casimir said. "He has several years of positive knowledge and experience in this game on both the men's and women's side, which is already benefiting the culture and development of the team. It's going to be a competitive season and I fell blessed to contribute to the process!"
A former Division I student-athlete, Casimir competed at the University of South Alabama where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor in Arts and Sciences in 2017 and later went on to earn a Master's in Business Administration from Olivet Nazarene University in 2020.
"We are extremely blessed to have Cynthia join the Tigers volleyball family. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience for the game, which the program will benefit from," Schmidt said. "She is also someone who can hold me accountable as we lead the program to new heights. We have something special here at UWA and within the Tigers volleyball program, by adding Cynthia to it is a great addition complementing the direction we are going. We are excited to have her on board."
Most recently, Casimir was the assistant volleyball coach at Lawson State College this past year helping lead the team to 11 wins, all conference victories, while graduating four student-athletes that went on to play at Division II programs.
Prior to Lawson State College, Casimir was the assistant recruiting manager for Alabama Performance Volleyball Club. After starting out as a club coach for the Mobile Storm Volleyball Club from 2015-17, Casimir also spent time as an assistant coach at Murphy High School for the 2016 year. Another club opportunity arrived in late 2017 when Casimir led the Southern Performance Volleyball Club before then breaking into collegiate coaching at Olivet Nazarene.
During her time at Olivet Nazarene, Casimir started out as a graduate assistant coach in 2018-19. After later moving to associate head coach, Casimir was named the interim head coach for the 2019 season, leading the team to 18 victories and a final four finish in the conference tournament.
From there beach volleyball was on the schedule where she served as the head beach coach and assistant indoor coach at nearby Spring Hill College in 2020.
