Volleyball Opens Newberry Tournament on Friday

NEWBERRY, S.C. - West Alabama will open the Newberry Tournament with two matches on Friday hosted by Newberry College inside Eleazer Arena. 

The Tigers face Southern Wesleyan at 9 a.m. CT on Friday. Southern Wesleyan ended the 2021 season with a 1-21 overall record and went 0-18 in conference play. 

The Tigers will then battle Lees-McRae at 3:30 p.m. CT on Friday. The Bobcats went 9-17 overall last year and finished 7-11 in the conference. 

UWA returns to the court on Saturday to take on Newberry at 9 a.m. The Tigers close out the tournament by playing Southern Wesleyan again at 1 p.m. CT. 

The Tigers enter the tournament with a 0-4 record after the Kentucky State Tournament last weekend. Ally Craig leads the team in kills and in points. The Ringgold, Georgia native has recorded 27 kills over three matches. 

MacKenzie Wells is leading the defense with 40 digs. She has also recorded 10 aces and six assists. Maddie Van Dyke leads the team in assists with 61.
