Tigers Remain Fourth in D2SIDA South Region Poll

NEW CASTLE, Del. - West Alabama men's basketball team remains fourth in week eight of the Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) South Region media poll after going 2-1 last week against conference opponents. This media poll is in its ninth year of existence.

The Tigers are 13-3 overall and 9-3 in GSC play. The Tigers defeated Christian Brothers 60-53 on Jan. 2. Four Tigers posted double figures in the matchup. Shardarrion Allen led the Tigers with 14 points and five rebounds. Terry Durham posted 12 points and eight rebounds. Justin Allison and Thaddeus Williams both had 10 points and three rebounds. Allison had four assists, and Williams had two.

In a two-game road swing, UWA defeated West Florida 60-52 on Jan. 5. CJ Melton posted a season-high of 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and had three assists. Allison dropped 16 points, had seven rebounds, and dished out five assists.

The Tigers took a 96-84 defeat from Valdosta State on Jan. 7 to wrap up last week's games. Allison led the Tigers with 18 points. Allen posted 15 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out five assists. Garner posted his first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Williams added 12 points.

As a squad, UWA averages 74.7 points per game. The Tigers' defense leads the GSC and is ranked fifth nationally in scoring defense, holding its opponent to 60.7 points per game. UWA's scoring margin is 14 points per game.

Four other GSC teams were also on the poll this week. Alabama Huntsville (14-4) is ranked third. Lee (10-3) is ranked fifth. Union (10-6) and West Georgia (9-4) are tied for eighth.

The Tigers return home on Wednesday to host Montevallo. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
