Allison Named GSC Most Outstanding Player, Garner Named to All-Tournament Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - West Alabama men's basketball guards Justin Allison and Kuran Garner earned Gulf South Conference honors at the GSC Championship Tournament, after securing the GSC Championship Tournament title.
 
Allison was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament and was named to the GSC All-Tournament Team. Allison averaged 18.7 points over three games. He had 6.3 rebounds per game and six steals over the tournament. 
 
Allison led the Tigers with 21 points and went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc, in the 84-73 win over the No. 7 seed Union in the first round of the GSC tournament. 
 
In the semifinals round against the No. 3 seed Lee University, Allison posted a double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. He also had six steals and three assists.
 
The Tigers went into overtime against the Flames. With 42 seconds left in overtime, Allison made a three-pointer to take the 74-71 lead. Allison and Garner each made two free throws to close the game with a 78-73 win. 
 
Allison led the Tigers with 18 points and three rebounds in the 67-65 win over the No. 4 seed West Georgia in the championship game of the tournament, crowning the Tigers GSC Tournament Champions.
 
Garner was named to the GSC All-Tournament Team. He averaged 14.7 points over three games and 5.3 rebounds.
 
Garner posted 19 points and grabbed six rebounds in the first round of the tournament. 
 
The Huntsville, Alabama native led the Tigers with 20 points in the semifinals round against Lee University. With 30 seconds left in the game, the Tigers were down but Garner made a layup and drew a foul to bring the score to 61-60. Garner made the free throw to end the regulation game in a 61-61 tie and allow the Tigers to go into overtime. The Tigers pulled out the 78-73 win in overtime.
 
Garner added five points and five rebounds in the 67-65 win against West Georgia in the championship game.
 
Joining Allison and Garner on the All-Tournament team are Michael Zabetakis (UWG), Jalen Sasser (UWG), Zawdie Jackson (UWG), and Tylandrius Parks (UU).
 
The Tigers head to the NCAA South Regional Tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Thursday. UWA enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will battle the No. 7 seed Tuskegee in the first round. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. CT at Rick Case Arena.
