UWA Women’s Rodeo Takes First Place at Boll Weevill Stampede at UAM

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The West Alabama men's and women's Tiger Wranglers competed in the Boll Weevil Stampede, at the University of Arkansas at Monticello at the Drew County Fairgrounds.

"The arena conditions this weekend were sketchy but all our ladies showed up and laid it all on the line," head coach Daniel Poole said. "The results reflect their determination."

The West Alabama women compiled 405 points to run away with first place. The Tiger men scored 660 points to place third.

The Matthew sisters dominated in barrel racing, with Jaylie Matthews taking the overall win with a finish of 180 points. Taycie Matthews finished second with a finish of 130 points. The next contestant was 40 points behind.

Heather McLaughlin finished third in goat tying with a finish of 95 points.

JT Ellison took the overall win in bulldogging with a total of 100 points. Garrett Guillot finished in third with a total of 90 points. Chase Graves finished fifth with a total of 60 points.

Chase Graves finished second in team roping with a total of 100 points. Only 10 points behind Graves, Clarke Gordon finished third with a total of 90 points.

"Coach Brown and Coach Ladnar have been ironing out some bad habits," Poole said. "Complied with our guys efforts it seems we are heading in the right direction.
