Gilliam, Stanbridge, Sullivan, and Wright Named to GSC All-Tournament Team

OXFORD, Ala. - The West Alabama softball team had four Tigers named to the Gulf South Conference All-Tournament Team, announced by the league office. 
 
Catcher Kelsie Gilliam, first baseman Ann Marie Stanbridge, outfielder Riley Sullivan, and pitcher Madison Wright were all named to the GSC All-Tournament Team.

The Tigers made it to the championship game in the GSC Championship Tournament. The Tigers' last time to make it to the GSC Championship game was in 1997. UWA went 3-1 in the tournament this year, dropping the final game 1-0 to UAH. 
 
Gilliam went 4-for-11 at the plate, hitting .364 with a double. She walked twice, scored four runs, and stole a base. Gilliam posted a .889 fielding percentage. 
 
Stanbridge also hit .364 with a double and a home run. She had three RBIs and scored two runs. Stanbridge posted a 1.000 fielding percentage. 
 
Sullivan went 5-for-11, hitting .455 with two home runs. She batted in four runs and scored three runs. Sullivan posted a 1.000 fielding percentage. 
 
Wright pitched 21.1 innings over four games, picking up three wins in the circle. Wright faced 95 batters, gave up 11 earned runs on 25 hits, and struck out 20.
 
Joining these four Tigers on the GSC All-Tournament team are Josie Thompson (UAH), Lawren Hayes (UAH), Jada Henderson (UAH), Brooke Fagan (MC), Gia Martin (AUM), and Chloe Derrick (AUM). Katie Bracken from Alabama Huntsville earned Most Outstanding Player of the GSC Tournament. 
 
The Tigers will continue postseason play in Saint Leo, Florida, as they take on the No. 3 seed Nova Southeastern Thursday at 2 p.m. CT. It has been 10 years since the Tigers made it to the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament. They will return under head coach Stephanie Defeo in her second season at UWA.
