Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The West Alabama volleyball team fell to Mississippi College in straight sets on Thursday night in Clinton, Mississippi, with scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-14.
Despite a strong start, the Tigers struggled to sustain momentum, allowing Mississippi College to control the match.
In the opening set, UWA showed promise with a .211 hitting percentage, led by
Jaida Alvin and
Peyton Quesnel. However, Mississippi College was more efficient, hitting .273 and pulling away late to win 25-16.
The second and third sets saw West Alabama face difficulties with errors and a dominant Mississippi College attack. The Tigers hit .000 in the second set and recorded a negative hitting percentage in the third. Lydia Paulette led the Choctaws with 14 kills, while the team hit .323 in the final set. Despite defensive efforts from
Maggie Roddam, who had a match-high 15 digs, UWA couldn't keep pace, falling 25-15 and 25-14 in the final two sets.
Jaida Alvin led West Alabama with eight kills, while
Taylor Lamontagne and
Berfin Mertcan combined for 14 assists. The loss drops the Tigers to 2-20 overall and 0-12 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College improves to 11-9 and 9-3 in the conference.
West Alabama will look to bounce back in their next match, a home game against Auburn Montgomery on Friday, October 25th, at 4:00 pm.
