LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football team has released the 2024 schedule, announced by head coach Brett Gilliland. 

Returning to an 11-game schedule, the Tigers will have six home games on the docket at Terry Bunn Field at Tiger Stadium. The season will start with three straight home games out of the gate. 

"We are excited to have 11 Division II football games on this year's schedule. All games are from Super Region 2 and against high-quality opponents. Having six home games in Tiger Stadium gives our fans great opportunities to get here to see the Tigers play. This is a very challenging schedule, and we are excited to meet the challenge," said Gilliland.

The Tigers will start the campaign with Miles College on Saturday, Aug. 31 for a 6 p.m. kickoff. Miles returns to the schedule for the first time since 2022, and it will be the first trip for the Golden Bears to Livingston since 2018. 

Coming off a 7-3 record last year, including a win against Alabama State, Miles finished in the top 10 in the region. 

Family Day will be the second game of the schedule, as the Tigers will take on the Pioneers of Tusculum on Sept. 7 for a 6 p.m. start. This will be the second meeting between the two schools, and the first matchup to take place in Livingston. UWA knocked off Tusculum in the previous meeting in 2019 by a 47-14 score. 

The final game of the season-opening home stand will take place on Sept. 14 when Limestone comes to town for Military Appreciation Day. Making the NCAA Championships last season, the Tigers defeated the Saints in Gaffney, South Carolina with a 27-13 result. 

After three straight games inside the friendly confines, UWA will hit the road for back-to-back games. The road swing starts with a trip to Pensacola to face West Florida on Sept. 21. The Tigers took down the Argos, who were ranked in the top 10 nationally, on Homecoming last season, 10-6.

The following week, Sept. 28, West Alabama will head to Gulf South Conference co-champion Valdosta State. The Blazers finished in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships in 2023. 

UWA returns home for a contest with a new GSC opponent in Erskine College on Oct. 5 for Hall of Fame Day. Competing primarily in Conference Carolinas, the Fleet played football as a member of the South Atlantic Conference. This will be the first meeting between the two schools. 

Following a game at home, the Tigers will head back on the road for back-to-back games. UWA will head to Clinton to take on Mississippi College on Oct. 12, followed by a trip to GSC co-champion Delta State on Oct. 19. 

UWA will be back home for two of the team's final three games of the schedule, starting with Homecoming on Oct. 26 against Chowan. 

The home and GSC schedule will conclude on Nov. 2 against North Greenville. It will be Senior Day for the UWA football program.

UWA will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Shorter on Nov. 9 from Rome, Georgia. 

Head coach Brett Gilliland will enter his 11th season at the helm of the UWA football program and is the winningest coach in team history with a 61-41 record.
