LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's rodeo teams are gearing up for the last rodeo show of the season this weekend at Northwest Mississippi Community College, and they are eyeing a spot at the College National Finals Rodeo in June.
The women's team holds a commanding lead with 3,145 points, while the men currently sit in second place at 3,530.
For the women, they have won five of the nine shows this season, and five are in the top three in the region in the events.
Taycie Matthews leads the Ozark region in barrel racing with 820 points, while her sister,
Jaylie Matthews, is 2nd with 760.
Lauren Booty is second in the All-Around with 840, while
Joanna Hammett is second in goat tying with a score of 720.
Ashley Henderson sits in third place in the breakaway roping with 330 points.
The men's squad has performed well in the spring portion of the schedule, posting two third place finishes and a second place result at Tennessee Martin two weekends ago.
Cooper Cowan leads the region in team roping with an 865 score, while
Kota Wilhite and
Blayne Saine are tied for second in the tie-down event with a 520 result.
