BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Announced by the Gulf South Conference on Friday evening, Lucas Hammond from the University of West Alabama men's tennis team has been selected to the All-GSC Second Team, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Hammond enters the postseason with a 7-11 record and is ranked 56th in Division II in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the Tigers No. 1 singles player.
In doubles play, Hammond recorded the most wins by any UWA player this season with an 11-6 record. Nine of the 11 victories came with partner Jacob Tapia (9-4) at the top flight.
Hammond earned his second All-GSC selection and holds career UWA records with 27 singles wins and added 37 doubles wins.
The West Alabama ace will lead the No. 6 seed UWA as they face the No. 3 seed in AUM in the quarterfinal round of the Gulf South Conference Championship on Saturday from Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
