Beaman Announces the Signing of Matias Iturbe

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - With the offseason in full swing, the University of West Alabama Head Tennis Coach, Jeff Beaman, announced the signing of Matias Iturbe on Monday.

Iturbe, the brother of UWA's Federico Iturbe, is set to join the Tigers as Graduate Student after excelling on the court with the UNC Charlotte 49ers for the past three seasons.

"Matias will make an immediate impact for our men's team," said Beaman. "His experience and leadership coupled with his talent will give our team a massive boost."

While at Division I, UNC Charlotte, Iturbe amassed 104 total career wins which will make him the most experienced and winningest player on West Alabama's roster. 24 of his 104 wins came this past Spring as he finished tied for the team lead in that category. In the Fall of 2024, the Buenos Aires, Argentina native captured the ITA Conference Master's Championship and the AAC Individual Championship in doubles alongside his partner, Vasco Prata, to clinch a berth in the NCAA Doubles Championships. After an explosive Fall Season, Iturbe's momentum carried into the Spring as the Graduate Student picked up 12 singles wins which stood as the second most amongst the 49ers.

Iturbe's most impressive season came in 2023-24 where he secured a total of 51 wins in the calendar year. The Argentina native accumulated a 16-11 record in singles and a 15-8 mark in doubles, leading UNC Charlotte to a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Iturbe's 16 singles wins ranked second amongst the 49ers while his 15 doubles wins, including three wins over ranked opponents, served as the team lead.

Iturbe's tennis career has been filled with success as he once held a Professional ATP Rankings, an All-AAC selection, ITA Academic All-American honoree, and has been slotted into the Top-10 of the Argentinian Men's National Rankings.

"Bringing an experienced player of this level, who is also an outstanding student, is a great addition," Beaman closed.

Iturbe is set to bring his talents to Livingston and is currently enrolled with the Tigers.
