LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team hits the road this weekend for a pair of Gulf South Conference matchups, visiting Trevecca Nazarene on Friday, Oct. 3, before heading to Lee University on Saturday, Oct. 4.
The Tigers (6-5, 2-2 GSC) are looking to regroup after a hard-fought home loss to UAH earlier this week. UWA pushed the Chargers to the brink in the second and third sets but ultimately fell in straight sets, snapping the team's momentum in conference play. Despite the setback, the Tigers have shown steady growth through the opening stretch of the season, highlighted by a six-match winning streak – their longest since 2011 – along with a five-set thriller against Montevallo and a dominant sweep over Auburn Montgomery.
Klára Bobánová and Cadence Goeden have anchored the offense with consistent production at the net, while setter Jana Petkovic continues to orchestrate the attack with precision. Freshman standout Jazlyn Snow has provided an additional spark, giving the Tigers a balanced attack that has proven difficult for opponents to contain.
Friday's opponent, Trevecca Nazarene, enters the weekend at 10-3 overall and 4-0 in GSC play, riding a five-match winning streak. The Trojans have been one of the early surprises in the league, combining efficient attacking with strong defensive numbers to position themselves among the top contenders.
On Saturday, UWA will face Lee University (5-8, 1-3 GSC), who recently dropped a 3-1 decision to Trevecca. Despite their record, the Flames remain a dangerous opponent, ranking among the league's leaders in total kills and attack attempts.
With both contests on the road, West Alabama will look to carry its competitive edge into a pivotal weekend slate and continue climbing the Gulf South Conference standings. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT Friday at Trevecca and 1 p.m. CT Saturday at Lee.
