LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's soccer continue their push toward postseason positioning with a key Gulf South Conference road matchup against the Alabama Huntsville Chargers on Friday, October 24th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Charger Park in Huntsville, Alabama.
The Tigers enter the weekend at 5-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in GSC play, currently sitting fourth in the conference standings. Meanwhile, the Chargers stand at 6-3-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the GSC, holding the seventh spot as the league race tightens heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
West Alabama has found its rhythm offensively, scoring 21 goals through 12 matches while averaging 1.75 goals per game. The Tigers have been balanced and efficient, converting 16% of their 131 total shots and recording 20 assists on their 21 goals.
Leading the way is
David Nunez, one of the GSC's top scorers, with 10 goals, two assists, and 22 total points. Nunez has been clinical in front of goal, scoring on nearly 30% of his shots and converting both of his penalty kick opportunities. Supporting him are
Harrison Page, who has contributed two goals and two assists in just eight games, and
Ronny Wakelin, who leads the team with six assists from the midfield. Freshman
Gonzalo Rawinad has also made an impact with two goals, and one assist this season.
Defensively, the Tigers have limited opponents to 16 goals (1.33 per game) while maintaining a .714 save percentage. Senior goalkeeper
Charlie Walker has anchored the backline, playing every minute of the season and posting 40 saves with two shutouts. West Alabama's backline, led by
Abdul Kamara,
Oisin Griffin, and
Clement Baron—has been crucial in keeping the Tigers competitive, conceding fewer than 12 shots per game on average.
The Chargers come into the contest averaging 1.33 goals per game while allowing just 1.00. Offensively, they are led by Phillip Seifert, who has scored seven goals with one assist for a team-high 15 points, and Oli Orzechowski, who has added five goals.
In goal, Sonny Wright has been reliable for UAH, recording 42 saves, a .808 save percentage, and three shutouts. The Chargers have taken 122 shots this season with a .475 shots-on-goal percentage, showing an ability to generate quality scoring chances despite a lower total volume.
With both teams in the thick of the GSC postseason hunt, Friday's matchup carries significant weight. A win for the Tigers could solidify their position in the top four of the standings, while a victory for UAH could tighten the race even further heading into the final stretch of conference play.
