LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Women's Cross Country's Mercy Lomuria was named the GSC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-GSC at the conclusion of the GSC Championships on Saturday.
Lomuria becomes the first GSC Freshman of the Year winner in school history, etching her name in the UWA History Books forever.
At the GSC Championships, the Freshman set a new PR in the 6k, crossing the finish line in 21:14.4 which was good enough for a sixth-place finish. Lomuria's sixth place placement was the highest amongst the Tigers.Â
Throughout the season, Lomuria finished within the top-20 in all five meets. The freshman turned in a time of 18:27.7 in the 5k event at the Falcon Classic which stands as a PR and a career-high third place finish.Â
Lomuria improved in each meet, beginning with a 18:57.8 time in the 5k at the UNA Invitational. In her first 6k at the Firehawk Invitational, the runner finished with a 22:42.4 time, before cutting off 39 seconds of her time at the Chargers XC Invitational. Lomuria peaked on Saturday, securing her spot as the conference's Freshman of the Year.
