Hernandez Earns Third GSC Goalkeeper of the Week Honor

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Another dominant performance between the posts has earned University of West Alabama goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez her third Gulf South Conference Goalkeeper of the Week award this season, the league office announced Tuesday.

Hernandez continued her stellar freshman campaign by recording her tenth shutout of the season in UWA's 2-0 road victory over Alabama Huntsville. She faced 13 shots and made four key saves to help the Tigers extend their winning streak to seven matches.

With the clean sheet, Hernandez now leads the GSC in nearly every major goalkeeping category. She ranks first in the conference in save percentage (.911), goals against average (0.357), and fewest goals allowed (5) among keepers with at least 10 appearances. Her 10 shutouts are also tied for the most in the league this season.

The Harker Heights, Texas native has been a consistent anchor for the Tigers' defense, posting an overall record of 10-2-2 and 51 saves on 140 shots faced through 14 matches.

Hernandez and the Tigers will look to keep their momentum rolling as they return to the UWA Soccer Field on Friday, October 31, for a Senior Day matchup against Spring Hill College at 5 PM.
