LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team returns to Pruitt Hall this weekend for a key Gulf South Conference homestand, hosting perennial powerhouse West Florida on Friday at 6 p.m. and Valdosta State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Tigers (6-8, 2-5 GSC) look to get back on track after a hard-fought four-set battle at Montevallo on Tuesday night. UWA came out swinging, taking the opening set 25-23 behind Cadence Goeden's early offensive rhythm and timely plays from Jazlyn Snow and Jana Petkovic. Despite a strong start, Montevallo rallied to take the next three sets, handing the Tigers their fifth conference loss of the season.
Now back on their home court, the Tigers aim to reignite that first-set energy as they welcome two challenging conference opponents.
Friday's matchup features a showdown with West Florida (13-3, 6-0 GSC), the league's top-ranked team and a consistent force in regional play. The Argonauts have dominated much of the early season behind a balanced offensive attack and sharp defensive execution. For UWA, the key will be maintaining aggression at the net and applying steady pressure from the service line.
Leading the Tigers is Goeden, one of the conference's most consistent hitters, alongside Klára Bobánová, whose versatility has been vital to UWA's attack. Petkovic continues to run the offense with precision, ranking among the GSC leaders in assists, while Katerina Korre contributes as an all-around player, providing a steady presence on both sides of the court.
On Saturday, the Tigers turn their attention to Valdosta State (4-11, 3-3 GSC) in what could be a pivotal matchup in the conference standings. The Blazers enter the weekend looking to build momentum after several competitive outings and will aim to disrupt UWA's tempo. For the Tigers, keeping the offense in rhythm and limiting errors will be key to closing out the weekend on a high note.
With two home matches on deck, West Alabama has an opportunity to make a statement and climb back into the GSC mix. Fans can expect an exciting weekend of volleyball in Livingston as the Tigers look to protect their home court.
