Football Set to Honor Seniors in Regular Season Finale against Riverhawks

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Football team is set for their regular season and home finale on Saturday as they play host to Northeastern State at 1:00 p.m., presented by Prystup.

West Alabama (5-3, 0-3 GSC) enters Saturday's matchup after their scheduled game against Lincoln for November 8 was canceled. For Northeastern State (7-3), they come to Livingston riding a five-game winning streak with their latest victory coming over McKendree.

Before the ball is kicked off on Saturday, West Alabama will honor 31 of their seniors as a part of their senior day ceremony. Amongst that group are leaders in Spencer Arceneaux, Dearrius Nelson, Tray Nunn, Michael McGregor, and Issac Williams who are all slated to play their final game at Tiger Stadium.

Arceneaux has put together the best season of his career in 2025, coming into the season finale with 23 total touchdowns and 2,346 total yards through eight games. The Quarterback has made his case for an All-GSC selection which will be announced next week. The Tigers will need their Quarterback to be at his best on Saturday against an elite Northeastern State defense. Nelson is also vying for an All-GSC selection as he's recorded 29 catches, 497 yards, and five touchdowns on the year. The Graduate has continued to improve as the seasons went along, averaging 80.8 yards and two touchdowns per game in the last four contests.

Brayden Jenkins anchors a UWA rushing attack that leads the GSC with 206.6 yards per game. Jenkins is up to 431 yards and seven touchdowns on 99 carries. The junior currently leads the conference in yards per game with 71.83. Tyler Smith, who scored two touchdowns in West Alabama's last contest against Valdosta State, and Michael Dujon provides quality depth in the RB room.

Defensively for the Tigers, JT Hooten is the guy. Hooten is arguably the most talented player on that side of the ball for UWA as he leads the team and ranks third in the GSC with 65 total tackles. McGregor and Nunn are the focal leaders for the Linebacker group. McGregor is second on the team with 46 total tackles while Nunn has registered an interception and 28 tackles in six games.

Up front, Marquis Robinson and Exavier McDowell are difference makers as the duo has combined for 9.0 tackles for loss. A lot of pressure will be put on the Tigers' front seven with a Northeastern State team coming to town that excels at running the ball.

The Riverhawks come to Livingston, riding a five game win streak with victories coming over Lincoln, William Jewell, Central Oklahoma, Lincoln (CA), and McKendree. NSU has turned around their program in 2025 after 13 consecutive losing seasons. From 2012-2024, the Riverhawks recorded a  record of 18-113. With head coach, Darrin Chiaverini in his second year with the program, Northeastern State brings a 7-3 overall record and a 21.3 point-margin into Saturday's contest.

This year, NSU is averaging 39.4 points and 423.8 yards per game. Running back Ramon McKinney Jr. is the engine to the Riverhawks' offense as the sophomore has put together an All-American type year. McKinney Jr. has recorded 970 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns on 145 carries.

Quarterback, Donnie Smith is also in the midst of a great season. Smith has been the starter for the Riverhawks all year and has registered a statline of 181-253, 2,350 passing yards, and 18 passing touchdowns. Smith's 71.54 completion percent currently ranks fourth in the country and is the highest amongst all Quarterbacks that UWA has faced this season. Smith's favorite targets are La'Vontae Shenault and Cam Woods. Shenault is 14th in the country in receiving yards with 848 along with 63 catches and four touchdowns. Woods is a 6'3", 225 pound Tight End that is amongst the best in the country. Through 10 games, Woods has catch 38 passes for 696 yards and eight touchdowns.

Defensively, Northeastern State is allowing 18.10 points and 307 yards per game. Defensive Back, Marvelous Owens is one of the top DBs in the country as he ranks second in the nation with 11 pass breakups along with seven interceptions. In the front seven, Khaden Walker leads the way with 60 tackles and two interceptions while Defensive Lineman Ayden Guess carries the team lead in sacks with 3.0.

There will be a ton of talent on the field on Saturday afternoon as West Alabama looks to end their regular season with a senior day win.

Kick-off for Saturday's game between the Tigers and the Riverhawks is set for 1:00 p.m. CST while the Senior Day Ceremony will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m.
