LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Behind dominant pitching and timely scoring, West Alabama (10-7, 5-2 GSC) secured a 3-0 shutout victory over Christian Brothers (6-9, 1-6 GSC) in Friday's series opener at Tartt Field.
Bryant Quimby (2-2) delivered a stellar start for the Tigers, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings while allowing just six hits and striking out six. Ryan Ladner and Judah Buckner combined for 2.1 perfect innings in relief, with Buckner earning his second save of the season.
The Tigers broke through in the fifth inning after a Christian Brothers error allowed Tanner Jones to score the game's first run. Moments later, Jake Goolsby's sacrifice fly brought home Will Wood, making it 2-0.
In the seventh, Eli Burwash extended UWA's lead with an RBI single to left field, scoring Wood for a 3-0 advantage.
Despite collecting six hits, the Bucs couldn't manufacture a run, stranding six runners on base. West Alabama's pitching staff shut down key bats, holding Christian Brothers to just two extra-base hits.
The Tigers and Bucs return to action on Saturday, March 1, for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
