LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team looks to bounce back as it hosts Miles College for its home opener at Tartt Field on Tuesday, February 4, at 4 p.m. The Tigers (1-2) are coming off a competitive opening weekend and will aim to build momentum against a Golden Bears squad (3-0) that started its season with a high-scoring win.
Through three games, West Alabama is hitting .255 as a team, with
Blake Vineyard leading the charge at .455 (5-for-11), while
Tanner Jones (.400) and
Jake Goolsby (.333) have provided additional offensive production. Goolsby and
Nick Thibodeau each have homered, while
Bryce Newman leads the team with three RBIs.
The Tigers have been patient at the plate, drawing 12 walks, and have shown power potential with three home runs. However, they will look to cut down on strikeouts, having fanned 28 times in their opening series.
West Alabama's pitching staff carries a 6.75 team ERA into Tuesday's contest. The bullpen has been a bright spot, led by
Jack Hoppenjans,
Nolan Phillips, and
Cade Miller, who have combined for 8.1 scoreless innings. The Tigers will need to improve their control, having issued 17 walks across 26.2 innings.
Miles College started its season with a 12-11 victory, displaying a potent offense that hit .389 in its opener. Kolby King and Casey Threats led the way with three hits each, while Jordan Pearson drove in a team-high four RBIs.
On the mound, Jaelyn Rhynes impressed with three no-hit innings, and the Golden Bears' bullpen will look to hold up against a UWA lineup aiming to break out.
West Alabama will look to settle in at home and use its depth on the mound to counter Miles College's early offensive firepower. If the Tigers can continue to get production from their top hitters while minimizing free passes on the mound, they will have a strong chance to secure a win.
First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Tartt Field.
