LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's team concluded the GSC-Lonestar Crossover with a loss to Midwestern State University on Sunday.

The Men's team (2-6) fell 2-4 while the Women (4-2) dropped a 2-5 decision. 

"For the Men, this was the first day that I thought we had the right attitude and effort, but we have to find a way to maintain it," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "As for the Women, we dealt with injuries today and went up against a team that finished second in the National Indoors."

The Tigers claimed the doubles point over Midwestern State in both the Men's and Women's match with the duos of Afonso Portugal/Tomas Almeida, Eita Ishikawa/Vilislav Bonev, Valentina Mutilba/Shaira Rivera, and Lolita Hukasian/Greta Zawels all winning their doubles matches. 

In Singles play, Portugal took home a (6-4,6-3) while Mutilba continued her undefeated season alive with a (4-6, 6-2, 7-5) victory. Rivera was in a battle with MSU's number one but wasn't able to finish due to an injury. 

To conclude the GSC-Lonestar Crossover, UWA's Women's team finished the weekend 2-1, with the Men's squad finishing 0-3.

"It wasn't a good day health wise but I'm really impressed on how we competed, taking the doubles point and pushing them in a couple singles matches," coach Beaman finished. 

The West Alabama Women now turn their attention to another challenge in the form of Nova Southeastern as they travel to Fort Lauderdale on Thursday for a matchup against the Sharks. The Men will be back in action on Tuesday, March 11 for a GSC matchup against West Florida in Pensacola.
