LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team returns to action Tuesday afternoon, welcoming Tuskegee University for a midweek non-conference matchup at Tartt Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Tigers (19-22, 12-15 GSC) will look to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season, backed by a lineup that's shown flashes of power and consistency. Nick Wilson leads UWA at the plate, hitting .319 with 28 RBIs, while Blake Vineyard brings pop with eight home runs and a .549 slugging percentage. Joe Watkins has been a versatile force as well, leading the team in runs scored (36) and stolen bases (8).
As a team, UWA is hitting .244 but has slugged 36 home runs and swiped 42 bases on the year. The pitching staff holds a 4.82 ERA, highlighted by left-hander Bryant Quimby, who has posted a 2.71 ERA across 63 innings with 56 strikeouts. Judah Buckner has also been lights-out from the bullpen, boasting a 0.00 ERA and three saves over 14 innings pitched.
West Alabama's defense has remained solid with a .961 fielding percentage and just 63 errors across 41 games.
Tuskegee has been more effective at the plate, hitting .284 as a team. Ryan Morrow leads the offense with a .362 average, 35 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases. Devon Lee (.316, 3 HR, 33 RBI) and James Slaughter (.318, 30 stolen bases) add speed and power to a lineup that has swiped 165 bases this season.
On the mound, Tuskegee has struggled to contain opposing offenses. Only one pitcher holds an ERA under 5.00 with significant innings pitched. The Golden Tigers have allowed 26 home runs and a .293 opponent batting average over 297.2 innings.
Tuesday's game marks as a for the Golden Tigers, as UWA defeated them back in February 8-5. The Tigers will then return to Gulf South Conference action over the weekend. Admission to Tartt Field is free, and live stats and streaming will be available through the UWA Athletics website.
