CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's track and field teams closed out the 2025 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Championships with a strong showing, earning nine podium finishes, three first-place titles, a new school record, and a conference scholar-athlete award.
Despite both the men's and women's teams finishing fifth overall out of seven programs, several Tigers delivered standout performances on the championship stage.
Augusta Arnold led the way, claiming the GSC title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.13, breaking her own UWA program record. Arnold was also honored as the GSC Scholar-Athlete, recognizing her excellence both athletically and academically.
Brayden Harris captured first place in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 14.75, while
Balikis Yakubu sprinted to victory in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.71.
UWA athletes also secured five second-place finishes:
Lawrence Walker Jr. also earned a third-place finish in the 200 meters, running 21.76 to cap a strong individual outing.
