LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's track and field athlete Dedric Hicks was named the Gulf South Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Hicks earns another GSC weekly honor after posting an impressive mark in the shot put.

At the UWA Invitational, Hicks led the field by a wide margin with a throw of 17.20 meters. The mark is his second-best of the outdoor season and currently ranks first in the conference, where he holds both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

The senior holds a personal record of 17.48 meters that was set at the GSC Indoor Championships in February.

Hicks will return to action this weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
