CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's track & field teams turned in an impressive weekend at the UWG Legends Meet, posting multiple event titles and podium finishes across two days of competition.
The UWA women finished third overall, while the men placed sixth in a competitive field.
West Alabama's success was highlighted by several first-place finishes on both the track and in the field.
Leading the way on the women's side, J'Da Williams captured the 100-meter dash title with a time of 11.76, while also adding a second-place finish in the 200 meters (24.71). The Tigers' sprint group continued to shine as the women's 4x100-meter relay team secured gold with a time of 46.65.
In distance events, Mercy Lomuria delivered a dominant performance, winning the women's 5000 meters with a time of 18:35.12, while also placing third in the 1500 meters (4:59.00). In the field, Rita Walker and Autumn Sansing went one-two in the women's javelin throw, with Walker claiming the title (34.49m) and Sansing finishing second (32.52m).
On the men's side, Dedric Hicks continued his standout season with a first-place finish in the shot put (16.50m), while Jaxson Lovelace earned gold in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 58.29 meters. In distance competition, Mathis Breton took the title in the men's 5000 meters (15:22.28), with Jonathan Phillips adding a fourth-place finish.
The Tigers also recorded several runner-up and top-three finishes throughout the meet. Jalen Green placed second in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.99, while Kilaya Lucien secured third in the women's 400 meters (57.83). The women's 4x400-meter relay team added another podium finish, taking second with a time of 3:56.90.
In middle-distance events, Gary Mata placed third in the men's 1500 meters (3:59.17) and added a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters (1:56.02), while ShaKenye Darden followed closely in seventh (1:56.06). Adria Burrell contributed key points with a fifth-place finish in both the 100 meters (12.24) and 200 meters (24.87), while Jocelyn Randle placed sixth in the 200 meters (24.90).
Additional top-10 finishes came from across the roster. Hayley Cook-Graham placed seventh in the women's 400 meters(1:00.38), while Tyrese Pitts led the men in the 400 meters with a fifth-place finish (48.95). In the field events, Avery Peterson placed fifth in the men's shot put (13.39m) and sixth in the discus throw (39.99m).
With multiple event titles, strong relay performances, and depth across both squads, the Tigers continue to build momentum as they are set to host their own meet next week at the UWA Invitational on Saturday, April 11th at the Jerry F. Smith T&F Complex.
