LIVINGSTON, Ala. - With Fall Camp beginning this week, the University of West Alabama Men's Soccer Program and Head Coach Ross Nelson announced the promotion of Harrison Roberts to Associate Head Coach.
Roberts has been Nelson's main assistant for the past six seasons after a brilliant playing career with the Tigers.
"Harry has been a fundamental part of our program since first joining as a player in 2015, then stepping into an assistant coaching role following his graduation from UWA in 2019," said Nelson. "Harry's leadership, work ethic, and deep understanding of the game has made a lasting impact on our student athletes and our culture."
In the past six years with UWA, Roberts has helped guide West Alabama to 34 wins, including an 8-2-6 overall record in 2023 season where the Tigers finished as the two-seed in the GSC. On the recruiting front, Roberts has aided UWA on the recruitments of impact players such as Patrick Sacher, Baronyi Kengeye, Adrian Evrard, and David Nunez.
As a player, Roberts stands as one of the greatest to come through West Alabama's Program. The former Midfielder played in 75 career matches, logging 5,418 minutes. Throughout his four year career, Roberts scored 12 goals and dished out 16 assists to accumulate 40 career points. With the Midfielder in the lineup, West Alabama put together a 44-24-7 record, winning three consecutive GSC Championships from 2015-2017, propelling themselves to trips to the NCAA South Regional Tournament. Roberts was recognized for his great play as he holds 2010-2020 GSC All-Decade Team recipient, three All-GSC selections, Two All-GSC Tournament selections, 2015 GSC Tournament Most Valuable Player to his name.
Roberts has been invaluable to West Alabama Men's Soccer both as a player and a coach and now takes the next step in his career, with being UWA's Associate Head Coach under Head Coach Ross Nelson.
"This is a well-deserved step forward for Harry in his career, and we a thrilled to continue building Harry in this elevated role," Nelson concluded.
