LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team moved up to No. 8 in the NABC Coaches Poll on Tuesday.
No. 8 West Alabama (16-1, 11-0 GSC) continues to soar up the rankings after extending their win streak to 14 with a 70-54 win over UAH on Saturday. With Saturday's result, the Tigers have now beaten all of the GSC teams through the first half of the Conference Schedule, a feat they've never achieved before in School History.
After holding the Chargers' explosive offense to 54 points on Saturday, UWA is now second in the country in points allowed per game, holding teams to 60.3 points per contest. Along with that, West Alabama is holding teams to 37.9 percent shooting which is the fifth best mark in the nation.
The Tigers have been equally dominant on the glass as they out-rebound opponents by 10.5 boards per game, ranking sixth in that category. Offensively, UWA is currently the deadliest three-point shooting team in the country, shooting 42.2 percent from deep which leads all of Division II.
A tenacious defense coupled with elite three-point shooting and rebounding prowess has led West Alabama to 12 double-digit wins and an 18.8 scoring margin which ranks eighth in the country.
Point Guard BJ Brown Jr. conducts the offense for UWA and has led the Tigers to the sixth fewest amount of turnovers per game in the nation. The junior is also 13th in the nation himself in assists per game with 5.7. Forward Christian Thompson dominates the paint, grabbing 10.6 rebounds per game, putting him seventh in the country.
West Alabama will look to defend their home court on Thursday when they host the West Florida Argonauts at 7:30 p.m.
