BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Track and Field team concluded the Samford Bulldog Open with five top-five finishes and multiple new School Records set.
West Alabama's Mathis Breton and Grace Gosline both placed first in their respective events. Breton was the first competitor to cross the line in the Men's 5000m event with a time of 14:57.65. This time also serves as a Personal Record for Breton and a new School Record for UWA. As for Gosline, she turned in the second fastest time in school history in the Women's 5000m, finishing first with a time of 19:30.46.Â
Along with Breton and Gosline, Gary Mata placed second in the Men's One Mile with a time of 4:17.32 which also stands as a new school record. Jalen Green competed in the Men's 60m dash and placed third with a 8.50 time, also setting a new school record. To close out the top-five finishers, Gosline placed fourth in the 3000m event with a time of 11:33.39.Â
In the field events, Bailey Keef set the new UWA standard in the Long Jump. Keef set a new Personal and School Record in the event with a 14'11.5" mark.Â
Just on the outside of the top-five, Sha'Kenye Darden and Abigail Vega placed sixth in the 800m and One Mile event, respectively. Darden crossed the line in 1:57.60 in the 800m while Vega ran her mile in 5:37.91.
West Alabama will now prepare for the GSC Championships which will take place on Thursday and Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
