LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Fresh off a historic start and a rise to No. 11 in the latest NCBWA National Top 25 Poll, the University of West Alabama baseball team will hit the road for the first Gulf South Conference away series of the season this weekend.
The Tigers (10-0, 3-0 GSC) will travel to Montgomery to face Auburn Montgomery at the AUM Baseball Complex, opening the three-game set with a doubleheader on Friday, February 20 at 2 p.m. The series will conclude Saturday, February 21 at 5 p.m.
Tigers Rolling Early
West Alabama enters the weekend unbeaten for the first time in program history and off to its best start as a GSC member. The Tigers have outscored opponents 87-31 through 10 games while combining explosive offense, dominant pitching, and steady defense.
Offensively, UWA is hitting .304 as a team with an .891 OPS and 78 RBIs.
Nick Wilson continues to lead the charge, batting .462 with a 1.287 OPS, three home runs, and 16 RBIs.
Rashad Robinson has been a catalyst at the top of the lineup, hitting .351 with three home runs, 14 RBIs, and a perfect 6-for-6 mark on the basepaths.
Hudson Walburn (.333),
Aaron Wallace (.281), and
Hayes Alford (.259, .500 OBP) have provided balance throughout the order, while
Peyton Moss has made the most of his opportunities, hitting .500 with a 1.636 OPS in limited action.
The Tigers have also shown patience at the plate, drawing 61 walks and posting a .446 team on-base percentage, while swiping 16 bases in 21 attempts.
Power on the Mound
West Alabama's pitching staff has been equally impressive, boasting a 2.33 team ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. Opponents are hitting just .197 against the Tigers, who have struck out 75 batters in 85 innings.
Blake Westry (0.71 ERA),
Thomas Kerby (1.32 ERA, 2-0), and
Baker Green (1.64 ERA) headline a strong rotation, while
Colin Woodham has added 11 strikeouts across 12.2 innings.
Out of the bullpen,
Cade Miller and
Camden Lyke have combined for three saves without allowing an earned run, and
Tyler Pierce has been dominant with a 1.93 ERA and nine strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
Defensively, UWA owns a .983 fielding percentage with just six errors in 10 games.
Scouting Auburn Montgomery
Auburn Montgomery (3-8, 0-3 GSC) is looking to rebound after a tough opening stretch in conference play. The Warhawks are hitting .256 as a team with 14 home runs and 59 RBIs.
Christopher McNeill leads the offense with a .405 average and five home runs, while Kyle Hipp has driven in 16 runs and added five long balls. Cannon Miller is hitting .433 with two home runs and eight RBIs.
On the mound, AUM has posted a 9.74 team ERA and is allowing opponents to hit .334. Jackson Reed (1-1) has logged 15 innings, while Huston Wynne (1-1) has made two starts. The Warhawks will look for improvement from a staff that has surrendered 108 runs in 11 games.
Defensively, AUM holds a .969 fielding percentage with 12 errors on the year.
Series History
The Warhawks hold a 40-36 edge in the all-time series and are 7-4 at home in the last 11 meetings in Montgomery. However, West Alabama has won four of the last five matchups overall, including a three-game sweep in Livingston last season.
With national momentum building and conference play heating up, the Tigers will look to keep their perfect record intact and continue climbing the rankings as they take on their first GSC road challenge of 2026.
