Baseball Climbs in National Polls After 12-2 Start

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama baseball team continued its rise on the national stage this week, improving in two of the three major national polls following a red-hot 12-2 start to the 2026 season.

The Tigers jumped to No. 9 in the ABCA Coaches Poll and moved up to No. 16 in the D2Baseball.com Top 25 Poll. West Alabama remained steady at No. 11 in the NCBWA National Top 25 Poll, marking another week inside the top tier of Division II baseball.

West Alabama's early-season success has been fueled by a potent offense and a deep pitching staff that has consistently controlled games on both sides of the ball.

UWA is hitting .301 as a team with 137 hits, 101 RBIs, and 11 home runs through 14 games, while posting an impressive .426 on-base percentage and .437 slugging percentage.

As a team, the Tigers have drawn 76 walks and have been aggressive on the bases, swiping 23 bags in 29 attempts.
West Alabama's pitching staff has been just as impressive, posting a 3.46 team ERA with a 1.19 WHIP while holding opponents to a .220 batting average. The Tigers have struck out 105 batters across 117 innings of work.

Opponents have scored just 54 runs against UWA this season, while West Alabama has outscored its competition 113-54.

The Tigers' climb into the top 10 of the ABCA Coaches Poll marks one of the highest rankings in program history, further solidifying West Alabama as a contender on the national stage.

With momentum continuing to build, the Tigers will look to carry their strong start deeper into Gulf South Conference play as they aim to keep rising in the national rankings throughout the season. As they now turn their attention to a road GSC series against Christian Brothers, starting on Friday, February 27th at 2 PM.
