Baker Green Earns Second Straight GSC Pitcher of the Week Honor

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Following another dominant outing on the mound, Baker Green of the No. 8 West Alabama Tigers baseball team has been named Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference office announced.

Green earned the honor after delivering a complete-game shutout in the Tigers' 4-0 victory over the Valdosta State Blazers in the opening game of last weekend's conference series.

The senior right-hander was in control from the first pitch, tossing all nine innings while allowing zero runs on eight hits. Green did not issue a walk and struck out two batters, guiding West Alabama to the shutout win that helped the Tigers secure the series.

The performance marked Green's first complete game and shutout of the season and continued an impressive start to the year for the Tigers' ace.

Through six appearances and six starts, Green owns a 3-0 record with a 2.67 ERA across 30.1 innings pitched. He has recorded 27 strikeouts while limiting opposing hitters to a .225 batting average.

Green's shutout also marked a rare milestone for the Tigers' program. The last West Alabama pitcher to throw a complete-game shutout in a nine-inning contest was Peyton Warren on March 7, 2020, when he blanked Spring Hill in a 4-0 victory.

Green becomes the first Tiger this season to earn back-to-back conference weekly honors and continues to anchor a West Alabama pitching staff that has been among the most effective in the Gulf South Conference.

No. 8 West Alabama will return to action Tuesday when the Tigers host William Carey Crusaders baseball in a midweek contest at Tartt Field.
