LIVINGSTON, Ala. – No. 8 West Alabama baseball continues its Gulf South Conference slate on the road this weekend, traveling to take on Union Bulldogs in a three-game series beginning Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. The series will continue with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28 at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
West Alabama (23-6, 14-4 GSC) enters the weekend as one of the hottest teams in the conference, powered by a dynamic offense and a pitching staff that ranks among the nation's best.
The Tigers have been dominant at the plate this season, hitting .315 as a team with 300 hits and 202 RBIs through 29 games. Nick Wilson leads the charge with a .357 average, six home runs, and 31 RBIs, while Hudson Walburn adds a .343 average and 26 RBIs.
Speed and power have both been key for UWA, highlighted by Rashad Robinson, who owns a 1.051 OPS with five home runs and a team-high 10 stolen bases. Wayne Wilkerson and Layth Holiday have also provided consistency, both hitting above .400 in limited action.
On the mound, the Tigers boast a 3.59 team ERA and have held opponents to a .237 batting average. Blake Westry has been a steady presence in the rotation with a 1.89 ERA and a perfect 5-0 record, while Baker Green and Colin Woodham have combined for six wins and over 60 innings of work.
Out of the bullpen, Tyler Pierce and Camden Lyke have been dominant, combining for four saves and sub-3.00 ERAs, giving UWA a reliable back end in close games.
Union (12-18, 4-14 GSC) will look to defend its home field behind a lineup hitting .269 as a team. Elijah Ramsey leads the Bulldogs with a .355 average and 31 RBIs, while Grant Ross adds four home runs and 26 RBIs.
On the mound, Union has posted a 7.14 ERA as a staff, with Cole Lannom leading the way with a 4.46 ERA and 36 strikeouts.
Historically, West Alabama holds a 27-10 advantage in the all-time series, including a 12-6 mark in Jackson over the last 18 meetings. The Tigers have also found success in recent matchups, winning multiple high-scoring contests over the past few seasons.
With conference positioning continuing to take shape, this weekend presents another key opportunity for West Alabama to build momentum and strengthen its standing in the GSC race.
