MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Track and Field's Jaxson Lovelace was named the GSC Champion Scholar Athlete on Friday.
At each GSC Championship Tournament, the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point-average among teams participating shall be recognized. A minimum of 48 credit hours must be completed at the institution in order to be nominated for the award, and the GPA is based on the most recently completed term.
Lovelace becomes the third UWA athlete to win the award this athletic season, joining Women's Soccer Aileen Charles and Men's Tennis' Federico Iturbe.
Lovelace is Biology major in the classroom and obtained a 3.83 GPA through 52 credit hours at West Alabama. During the GSC Outdoor Championships, the sophomore competed in the High Jump, Long Jump, and Javelin for the Tigers. In the High Jump, Lovelace set a new personal best with a 1.85m mark, before placing sixth in the Javelin with a 53.46m throw. In the Long Jump, the sophomore finished ninth with a 6.53m leap.
Lovelace and the Tigers finished the GSC Outdoor Championships with a fifth place placement.
