LIVINGSTON, Ala. – University of West Alabama men's soccer standout David Nunez has been named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week following a four-goal performance across the Tigers' two matches last week.

Nunez recorded four goals on eight shots, placing six attempts on target, while helping the Tigers earn their first victory of the season.

The senior forward opened the week with a goal against (RV) UAH on Friday, scoring UWA's lone goal in a 2-1 setback during the Tigers' GSC opener. Nunez finished the match with two shots and one shot on goal while playing all 90 minutes.

Nunez followed with a career-best performance against Tuskegee on Sunday, recording a hat trick in UWA's 8-1 victory at the UWA Soccer Field. He scored UWA's first goal of the match in the fourth minute, converted a penalty kick in the 28th minute and completed the hat trick early in the second half. Nunez finished the contest with six shots, five of which were on target, while playing 52 minutes.

Across the two matches, Nunez totaled four goals, eight shots and six shots on goal, converting on 50 percent of his attempts and putting 75 percent of his shots on target.

His three-goal performance against Tuskegee helped the Tigers tie the program record for most goals scored in a single match.

Nunez and the Tigers will return to GSC action Wednesday, September 16, traveling to Lee University for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
