UWA Faces No. 23 Arkansas Tech

LIVINGSTON, Ala.  – For the second straight contest, the University of West Alabama men's basketball team will face a nationally ranked opponent as UWA squares off with No. 23 Arkansas Tech on Saturday, Nov. 28, in Russellville, Ark.  Tip off is set for 6 p.m.

The Tigers (3-1) are coming off their first setback of the season to previously ranked Delta State last Monday in Cleveland, Miss.  The Statesmen staved off a couple of UWA late comebacks for the 72-67 win.  The Wonder Boys of ATU replaced DSU in the first National Association of Basketball Coaches regular season Top 25 poll.

Saturday's Gulf South Conference East-West Division duel features two of the top five shooting teams in the league.  UWA ranks third in the conference in shooting, connecting on 51 percent of it shots while ATU hits 50 percent from the field.  UWA's shooting figure has been aided by its three-point shooting as it comes into the contest averaging ten three-pointers per game and draining 47 percent from three-point range.  Individually, senior guard Richard Sirju leads the Red and White in scoring with a 15.8 scoring average.  Sophomore guard Alquan Mendenhall turns in 14.8 points per game and is coming off a 23 point effort against DSU.  Senior forward Jason Swanson pulls down team-best 10.5 rebounds per contest along with adding 13 points per game.

ATU (4-0) is coming off its second 100-point game of the year after drilling Baptist Bible, 116-48, on Monday.  The Green and Gold opened the season with a 106-40 thumping of Ozark Christian.  The Tigers and Wonders Boys have met just once previously on the hardwood as ATU claimed an 84-64 decision during the 1999-2000 season.

Following the ATU tilt, UWA will travel to Searcy, Ark. on Monday to face Harding University.
