LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After seven days away from competition, the University of West Alabama men’s basketball team returns to action on Monday, Dec. 28, against Alabama State. Tip off against the Hornets is set for 7 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala. Live stats will not be available for the ASU-UWA match up.
UWA (8-4) entered the holiday break after topping a pair of Gulf South Conference West foes – UAM and Southern Arkansas. The Red and White enter the tilt with the Hornets riding a three-game winning streak. Following Monday’s tilt with ASU, the Tigers will trek to Arkadelphia, Ark. to face Henderson State on Jan. 1 before closing out competition against the GSC West on Jan. 2 against Ouachita Baptist.
During UWA’s current three-game winning streak, it is averaging 78 points per contest and out-scoring the opposition by a +10.7 margin. UWA has drained nine three-pointers per game in the past three contests along with a +5.3 rebounding edge. Individually, senior guard Richard Sirju continues to lead the Tigers in scoring with a 16.1 average. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-native also leads the GSC in three-point scoring average at 61.1 percent. Senior Jason Swanson is closing in on averaging a double-double for the season. The Troy, Ala.-product adds 15.1 points per game along with pulling down 9.6 rebounds per outing. Sophomore guard Alquan Mendenhall rounds out the double digit scoring marks at 11.1 points per contest.
The Hornets of ASU enter the in-state tilt with a 2-8 mark on the season after falling 94-78 against Auburn before the break. ASU’s pair of wins is against Columbus State and Auburn Montgomery.
