LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's basketball team cruised to an 80-49 home victory over the Huntingdon Hawks on Monday night. The win improved the Tigers to 2-1 to start the season including a 2-0 mark in Pruitt Hall. Huntingdon starts the season 0-1 with the loss.
The Hawks drew first blood in the contest to have an early 2-0 lead, but the Tigers answered and never looked back as the squad used a 53.3 field goal percentage in the first half to build up a 42-23 advantage at the halftime break.
The second half was much of the same for the Tigers as the Red and White outscored the visitors 38-26 in the frame while shooting over 50 percent from the field again as West Alabama finished the evening shooting 52.5 percent including a blistering 45 percent success rate from beyond the arc.
Trevell Coleman led a group of four Tigers who reached double figures in scoring on the night. The senior hit a pair of treys en route to scoring a team-best 17 points.
Alquan Mendenhall chipped in 15 points on the strength of three 3-point baskets, while
Jonathan Griffin and
Ryan Fitch added 15 and 12, respectively.
Griffin and Fitch led the way for the hosts on the glass as each grabbed seven rebounds apiece.
Huntingdon was led in scoring by Jacob Moody with 13 points.
